Description
A cool climate Chardonnay, barrel aged for 9 months in French oak. Aromas of green apple, citrus and hints of toffy. Rich on the palate, this dry wine offers characters of fresh fruit and lingering buttery oak characters. Crisp acidity from limestone in the soils.
Although 2019 was a rainy and cool year reduced crop yields for whites enabled some very good quality fruit. Grapes like Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer fared well. Rains lessened later in the season. It was a season where all varieties stayed on the vine longer than usual to balance PH, Acidity,
and Brix. In the fall there was an unusual early frost that hit the later maturing grapes increasing sugar levels. Good or fair would be an accurate assessment with some interesting characters for the fruit. Chardonnay grapes are grown in clay-loam soils, and give the finished wine a touch of minerality. Made in a dry, cool climate style, the fruit sweetness keeps the palate lush and the high acidity keeps this wine fresh. This is a great wine to serve with a wide variety of meals including turkey, duck or salmon.
